Making arrows

Hello all. I got a bow for my birthday, so once I have arrows I can combat (limitedly, anyway) again!

So this brings me to the question, does anyone have any advice or suggestions for making arrows? I see Edhellen has arrow kits, but I would still need the
shafts. Can I just use arrow shafts from a sporting goods store or Walmart?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Oh, and I'm otherwise a non-combatant because I'm pregnant.

By the time you lose that high a percentage of the poundage of your bow, you probably won't be left with a very functional bow . . . it might still work,
but you'll lose force, even at the same weight, because the bow isn't designed to respond rapidly to such a (relatively) weak force.

As far as reusing arrow foam goes, you could probably reuse the side foam, but all of the foam on the front of the arrow, both open and closed cell, breaks
down fairly rapidly, and...

Thanks for all your replies! I want to get Sara working with arrows as soon as I can, so we can both practice!

I also wanted to know if my bow will be ok. It is a 50lb recurve. Is that too strong, or that is not a problem? If it is ok, I will get a new bow string for
it (the other has frayed and is over 20 years old) and bring that too!

Thanks again!

I have about 15 arrow shafts you can have!

Thing about them is the fletchings are poor, if there at all, and they already have the foam heads on them but that can be easily stripped off and some of the
base foam recycled i believe (someone correct me here is i am wrong, i do not want to give bad arrow making device!)

I would be just willing to give them to you but i may want to steal them from you anytime I feel like being a jerk and arching <img height="15"...

I have found that Edhellen arrow kits work quite well, especially when used as the base materials for Eryndor-style arrows (ref.
http://www.bobafettm.com/eryndor/page_gear/gear.htm).

The best place to get shafts is Wal-Mart. Get their 31" carbon fibre arrows, I can't recall the brand name, but make sure not to get the extra-light
or extra-thin walled ones . . . get the cheap, thick ones, they are a bit more durable, and cost half as much. Don't get anything shorter...

Thanks, just let me know when you have materials! I don't know if we will be at many practices in March - an Awana commitment may take over our Saturdays.
